Some evenings remind you exactly why you do what you do — and this year’s Hope on the Hard Road Gala was one of those unforgettable nights.
As both a local business owner and proud board member of Hope on the Hard Road, I had the honor of standing among families, advocates, and leaders who represent the best of San Diego County — compassion, connection, and true community.
The Mission That Moves Us
Hope on the Hard Road exists to connect and encourage families raising children with special needs through programs that nurture the individual, the family, and the community.
From mom and dad nights out to sibling programs, inclusive family events, and educational resources, Hope provides not only tools but belonging — a safe space for families who often feel unseen.

A Celebration of Purpose
Hosted with grace and humor by Alexandra Moon, Lead Pastor of The Foundry Community Church, the night carried warmth from the moment guests walked in. Alexandra’s words guided us through laughter, reflection, and gratitude, setting a heartfelt tone for an evening that felt like family.
The keynote address came from Dr. Darshana Patel, California State Assembly Member for the 76th District — a longtime advocate for public education, inclusion, and civic collaboration. Her message reinforced the power of community partnerships and the responsibility we all share to lift up families navigating unique challenges.
Honoring Those Who Inspire Hope
The night’s highlight came with the Ambassadors of Hope Awards, honoring individuals and organizations whose work and service embody the heart of the mission.
Bill Smith, of Morgan Stanley, was recognized for his ongoing support of special needs families and local nonprofits through his professional expertise and personal dedication.
Brain Balance of Greater San Diego, owned by Amanda Lee, M.A.Ed, received the Community Partner Award for their holistic, evidence-based programs that empower children and teens to reach their full potential.
Both honorees remind us that hope grows when businesses use their resources to serve people, not just profit.
A Room Filled with Heart
The evening’s atmosphere was nothing short of stunning.
Rufina Maldonado, a fellow special needs mom, filled the space with elegant balloon décor that reflected celebration and love.
Vanessa Escalante Cadena, Vice President and Senior Branch Manager at a local bank, brought her creative eye to the evening’s photo ops, ensuring every family had a beautiful memory to take home.
Attendees included community advocates, chamber members, educators, and local leaders — including Rick Clark of Shooting Stars Basketball, a program near and dear to our community’s heart.
The Repair Tech Connection
For me, this night was more than another event on the calendar. It was a reflection of everything I believe in — that business should serve the community it’s part of.
At The Repair Tech Inc., our work goes beyond HVAC and appliance repair. We believe in comfort, safety, and care — in showing up when families need it most. As a woman-owned, family-run business, we understand that every home we enter is more than a job — it’s a story.
Supporting Hope on the Hard Road aligns with our mission: to build not only reliable systems but reliable relationships. When local businesses back local nonprofits, we multiply impact.
With Your Help, Hope Continues

Throughout the evening, guests were invited to support Hope’s ongoing programs through one-time gifts and recurring sponsorships that fund nights out for parents, scholarships for conferences, and future initiatives for adults with disabilities and their families.
Whether through financial gifts, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, every contribution fuels programs that change lives year-round.
Gratitude & Forward Momentum
To everyone who helped make the evening extraordinary — from our award honorees to our sponsors, decorators, and volunteers — thank you.
This night was proof that hope doesn’t just happen; it’s built together.
And as we look forward to another year of programs, partnerships, and community growth, The Repair Tech will continue to stand proudly beside Hope on the Hard Road — because when purpose meets people, lives are changed.
